    Vertex Weight?

My SO and I just got our Vertex in the mail yesterday. We set it up and really liked it. Our dog fits great in the cargo area and for the chilly nights, in one of the hammocks with one of us.

However, it seems a bit heavier than advertised? Obviously, with this behemoth we didn't expect to be superlight camping or anything, but we'd like to keep weight down as much as possible.

Here is what we weighed it as:
    4 lb 5 oz hammock
1 lb 6 oz rain fly
    4 oz poles
    Total: 5 lb 15 oz

The total advertised weight is only 4 lb 15 oz. We did not add on the optional weather shield which would bring the weight up.

Has anyone else had this experience? Could my kitchen and bathroom scale both be so far off?

I don't plan on returning it, we quite like it and it really fits our needs, but the extra weight is disappointing.

    .
You can hardly trust a bathroom scale for you actual weight let alone a light weight.

Get a postal scale . . . one that is for 5lb max.

    Then you will see
Glad to hear you like it . . . Photos or it didn't happen

Thanks for the advice. There's a postal scale at work I'll try out tomorrow. I'll try to get photos tomorrow evening!

Awesome! My wife and I received ours recently and we have spent 2 nights in it so far. Definately nice and comfy, can't wait to get out into the woods and try it out!

Nice pics. And I really like that upscale, fancy hammock stand you have there.
Very cool idea with the "paw gloves" to keep rips and holes down.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
