That need for more stakes may be particular to the tarp.

Muck around in hmmck and tarp-related videos, and you may see, as I did, a tarp set up in which the bushcrafter quickly secured center tie-outs to corner stakes. Maybe that configuration was particular to the tarp, or maybe works with many or all.

This is the video. The presenter seems as sophisticated in his understanding and skills as most who present at HF.

I've been in contact with Marty and he is wicked quick with responses, even offered to mail me color samples. He also said he could make an OMW with two tie outs and without the two cat cuts. My thoughts are that the panel pulls would do the job that the third tie-out does. Any personal experience with panel pulls?
I'm not worried about the weight of additional stakes (I've been known to have 1 or 2 extra) but with the economy of action and the simplicity of adjustment. Hey Backtrack, no hard feelings but bladder hydration systems and New Hampshire winters don't mix.

    Thanks for all the input

I'd leave the tie outs on. You can use a length of line and fasten each end to the tie out on the tarp. That way you stake to the line loop and can do 4 tie outs with just two stakes. Or a long length will do 2 tie outs to one stake on a four corner tarp. This is close to the system to the one in the video link from DemostiX- but the tangle factor is less using loop to loop tied off with bolen knots. I have panel pulls on all of my tarps. I find they work best if you can tie up to a tree or limb. I carry 2 extra 12' pieces of zing it to tie 'up' the pullouts. Just sayin.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

i'm selling my superfly and going to replace it with an Old Man Winter.
the center tie outs give a trampoline tight surface and add allot of protection against
wind. 2 extra stakes = 1oz or i can use a couple of sharp sticks.

What stakes......I used my side out outs with 3 tie out lines in a Y and tied the botton of the Y to a tree to pull out the side of my OMW tarp this weekend. Second time I have used this tarp and I survived a major down pour and stayed nice and dry under the tarp.

sorry I didnt see this before. I was the first one to have one of the old man winter tarps, I made a video of it here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jb_EICsO8o

its an aweasome piece of work and I love it. It has kept me dry and had no flaws. plus I love free shipping. but marty is a great guy and he will work with you on anything you need. the thing I liked was the great size of the doors.

What do you mean by "Forget about that." ?

That what he presents is too difficult or not worth doing?

That it doesn't apply to the WL tarp?
he said " forGOT about that " dang calm down
