REPORT; Grayson Highlands Fall Festival; Sept 23-25, 2011

Great trip!!! I can't say enough about the fine group of folks that joined in on this trip.
I saw old friends I hadn't seen in a while, & meet a lot of new friends.
I believe we recorded 39 campers on paper & there were at least 4 or more that came by for the day.

The festival was fun & full of people. We had people coming into the "Hammock Demo" area most of the day, asking questions & trying out one or more of the hammocks on display.

Some of our HF members were already talking about this being an annual event. I agree.
Our ranger friend Marciea talked as if providing the group camp site free of charge for a group volunteering at the festival would be no problem. We'll confirm that & see what everyone thinks about making this an annual event.

Weather... well, at times it was perfect. At times it was extremely wet

Much more to come, including plenty of pictures & some video.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

It was great meeting everyone there on Friday! I do feel that everything happens for a reason, though, and me leaving on Saturday was no exception. Two other campers and I ended up rescuing lost day hikers from App State at around 10:00 that night. They did not have lights, food or proper clothing and were stuck on a rock outcropping. Anyway, I will definately be attending other group functions. Thanks for the hospitality!

Well, Singing Otter, Otter Pup and I made it home in one piece. We stopped and had lunch at the log Cabin Restaurant with Rockdawg, REV, and Slowhike. I think we all had a blast this weekend, even with the rain.
Big thanks to all who cooked this weekend too! The gumbo was delicious, as were the pancakes, venison sausage, bacon, breads, monkeybread, and cobbler!
Hope to see y'all at another hang soon!

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Jayemm. wow. Glad you & other experianced hikers were there to lead them out. I'm not sure if they would have survived the hypothermia if they had to spend the night out there.
Hope to see you at another hang or in the outfitter store.

We are home safe, and I love, love, love my hammock friends! I just wish the weekend did not end so quickly. I did not have the time or opportunity to meet everyone there nor see more of the things I wanted to see. This was also a hit for my mom and son. (very tired and sore, will talk more tomorrow and try to get some pictures up).

If you enjoyed this weekend w/ all the rain, just wait until you have a weekend with perfect weather
Good meeting you, your mom & son. Hope we'll see you at another one.

And glad your mom loved the hammock you provided her.
Along with your mom, I know of at least one other hammock convert from this weekend... a young lady now known as Sawgy (Soggy), but I'll let someone else tell that story

We had some long distance & some really long distance travelers for this trip.
I believe Big Turtle drove 15 hours from Missouri, getting to camp in the early morning hours.
And two other HF members (y'all help me with the names) drove 16 hours from Fort Myers, Florida to get there, also in the early hours of Sat morn.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
