My first hammock

Finished over the weekend but nasty weather kept me from setting it up to take some pics. So... I brought it to work (international bring your hammock to work day anyone?) and set it up during my break. It's crude, ugly, stitches look like I was drunk, a few mistakes (that shouldn't really make a difference in function), but I think it will do

My little warm up projects to learn to sew. The bigger bag that the hammock is in is actually for my cooking gear but will use it for the hammock for now. The smaller bag has straps, amsteel, a couple of prussic loops, tarp pegs, and anything else I can cram in.

Ok, I'm home now and not on the clock

It is a DL basic design like the DIYGearSupply one page wonder. I started with two pieces of 11'x5' 1.7 (or1.9) oz. ripstop from the $3/yard Hancock sale. I put in channels and used that for bunching but after laying in it I am pretty sure I'm going to try the old fashioned method of bunch and whip so that I can pull the sides up a bit.

I had a brief lay in it after getting home until the mosquitoes ran me out. It was comfortable and nice and veeery relaxing. Not sure how I would sleep on it yet but I think I will be able to find my sweet spot. I can't wait for some cool weather down here so that I won't sweat and the bugs will be survivable.

Next up is to work on mosquito netting for it. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do for that. I would prefer some sort of a zipper arrangement but we'll see.

Not yet, I need to solve the mosquito issue first or I'll wake up bloodless

I'm looking forward to lots of swinging in the back yard though... especially this winter.

Great work, when we get to the 11 hang we can compare crooked stitches. As for bug nets have a read on hangnout's and Pip's zipperless bugnets, this is the way I'm leaning. Simple, functional, light weight.

If it doesn't stop raining we'll have to go with plan B out there. When I went out there Saturday morning about half of the camp site was under water and the creek was almost spilling over... then I got another 2 inches of rain over the weekend. I definitely need the bug netting issue taken care of before I head down there (it's a fairly buggy site anyway).

I've looked at those sock designs and might end up doing that to solve the problem in the short term. We'll see
