    Newb from Lubbock

Hi everyone, I am new to hammock camping and live in Lubbock Texas. I am a volunteer for a small local Boy Scouts Troop and hope that I can teach the boys some of the information that I have been learning here.

My first diy project was making whoopie slings out of Amsteel Blue and I am very happy with the out come of them.

My next diy projects that I want to work on is a tarp and UQ, but my problem is that I dont own a sewing machine.

Welcome to HF from Mass. It sounds like you got bit by the DIY bug. Sadly, there is no known cure...

Howdy and welcome! It's great to see another Texan hanging.

If you haven't seen the thread for our upcoming group hang, check it out and come join us.

Also, I've been to Lubbock... you may want to include a hammock stand in that DIY project list just incase someone else gets to those two trees ahead of you.

And welcome from a lil north east of the San Jacinto River....
You have picked a fine place to "Hang Around" on this site.

For the UQ project you might want to try converting a sleeping bad. I converted a rectangular bag (my wife's bag, but that is another story) to an UQ without a sewing machine. Just something to rip the thread holding the zipper on and then a needle and thread to sew on several loops for a cord. A lot of fun and it works great as an UQ.
