    New hammock Stand (first draft)

This is just a rough draft I threw together.
The next one will be lighter, cleaner and more decorative.
As well as the ridge poles with break in half when done.
I can say its strong and i'm happy with how it works.
It Mortise and Tenons together with 4 wood pins.

Looks great! Simple and elegant. You could probably take a hole-saw to the ends remove a lot of the weight before beginning to compromise the structure.

Yeah easily. Next version I make I plan to use hardwood and add a lot of carvings through out to give it some style.

Yeah, no kidding. Nice work! I made one that is similar, but not nearly as easy on the eyes.

Very nice! I need one of those for my yard. Feel free to drop this one off at my place when you make your new one. ;-)

Good looking stand, Gary R. Most of the time when I throw wood together it doesn't seem to fit that nicely. You must have a good arm--and a good eye. Keep us posted on how you like it.

That's a great stand that you threw together (sheesh). You must have a very precise throwing arm. I am also a hobbiest woodworker and can appreciate the time it takes to do joinery that fits properly.

What wood is this one made out of?

It also occurs to me that this being only 10 or so feet long would also make an ideal indoor stand too as it is can be made relatively decorative with different woods and it doesn't have the bottom beam back breaker in the event of a catastrophic hammock failure.

    Cheers

    Brian
