If you really want them ill draw them up today.
Why a wider stance?, Its plenty stable. I guess you could make it bigger so you could tie your shelf out (Bring the lower brace up some)
If you want it only for the back yard I would just make the Ridge longer so you can use your tarp on it.
This one has no plywood but you could use that just as well..
Just make sure to seal the wood very well.
wow, that's really nice work...
I started making detailed drawings this morning.
After the 5th page I realized as simple as this is, its a pain to draw and make it
understandable.
So soon as I can Ill just make another and take step by step photos.
The hardest part to draw is how the mortise and tenon is done.
If you understand that, you can probably build it without asking anyways:P
Nice stand Gary. Do you have some measurements? Also thanks for the couscous idea. I showed some people back in Idaho when I was backpacking the Bitteroots and they loved them. I will post a report later with pictures.
That's such an elegant design plus no beam under the back should a fall occur.

Gary R, Nice design. I think I will try to build my stand after your design. It looks easy to assemble & disassemble when necessary.
The base & ridge line beams look like 2"x4". Is the tenon on the ridge line holding up to the weight (stress) of the strap? you are rigging the strap around the tenon ( 1.5" x 1.5"-guess). this looks like a stress point in the design. Any comments on this after living with it for a while?
I do like the ridge line, it will keep tarps from sagging when weight is applied to the hammock.
I just think a slightly wider stance would be needed if a tarp is rigged to this stand- wind load force seems like it could tip stand? thoughts?
Great idea and execution!
There is not a lot of tenon sticking out so not much leverage against it.
I have not noticed any issues, but you could easily just add a connection point that you could bolt on to the face instead.
I designed it so it could be indoors.
If outside it could easily be wider, But I don't see the need.
If you have a tarp over it, I would assume you would stake it down...
Yes they are 2x4 for the runners.
Gary R,
Thanks for the quick reply. I will play with your design a little and post some photos when I get around to building this stand.
Yes-my use will be outdoors. The tarp will be staked out, but I have seen the wind tear up gear/structures that are not anchored properly.
Another question- In your opinion, if I lengthen the ridge line out to 14-15'. Do you think I will need to "T" brace the ridge line to keep in rigid and not warp?
Thanks again for sharing your great design.
