    WB with MMG Shamu IX?

Just wondering If anyone has tried a Blackbird with a Molly Mac Gear Shamu IX underquilt. How is the fit and the warmth? Do you have to do any crazy mods to fit the footbox? Also anyone have any spy pics of the WB bridge?

I had the uncovered version of the Shamu. I had to cover mine to get it to fit right as I had gaps in the head and foot end. I'm still not sure if I could get down to the 30's comfortably or not, and I have an extra layer too. They are super lightweight, but the amount of work I've had put into it might not have been worth it. I don't think it has anything to do with having a BB either. Just my .02

I got the Shamu last year and now it's a part of every setup for me. I've been comfortable in the mid-to-upper 30*F in it and in the 70-80*F range with proper venting. It's extremely versatile. Here's a link to one of the posts on the Shamu:

That's what I have, I posted earlier today that I have been struggling a little bit with keeping it on right. I am not sure if some of it has to do with my size or just plain old operator error (I am 6'3", 230#). Shug was kind enough to direct to one of his under quilt videos and I am going to try some different things out in the yard this week to see if I can fix the problems. It is a well made product for the $$ and I have been down to the upper 30's with a single layer, just bought an insert for a trip I did up to the UP of MI a few weeks ago but they were back ordered and I didn't receive it in time (of course it arrived the day I got back!). I'll let you know how my test runs go with some of Shug's suggestions.

If you have the standard Shamu with the end channels (to really close up the ends), an extra layer should bring you down to the mid- and lower-30s. I'm a cold sleeper and the Shamu with a full-length insert gets me down to the mid-30s just fine.

Well after another weekend of playing with the Shamu I am thinking it's just not for me, and I am totally blaming my shoulder width (from the middle of my arms, about where I'd like to be covered I measure close to 29"), there just isn't enough play in there for me to keep it from slipping. Maybe the triangle thingies would work but I am thinking it's more just about my size and the size of the Shamu. The Shamu comes in at 43" wide (flat) versus some others that seem to be more in the 48"+ range. It's too bad because it is a really well made piece of gear and Mac was most helpful. Look for it in the for sale section soon.

Do you mean slipping up either side and leaving the other side uncovered? If so, I had the same problem to start with but came up with an easy way to fix it with nothing but the elastic cord that came supplied with the shamu. It might help to have a look at the pictures in my gallery but basically I just tied a loop in the middle of the elastic and attached that to the ridgeline which prevents the shamu from moving at all. It makes it easy to position it in the right spot and get a nice fit against the bottom of the hammock too just using a half hitch or two on each corner of the shamu. SImple and fairly foolproof...

The Shamu and Baby Orca were developed to fit the WBBB. Turns out the patterns fit nearly every hammock as well. End channels help it fit smaller hammocks, and hammocks filled with smaller people.
