Just made a continuous loop tonight out of 1.75 Zing-It. Used a 0.014" (0.356mm) sized guitar string. I don't know what gauge that is. It worked well enough.

The first bury was a real pain because I forgot to taper the end though. The second was much easier with a tapered end.

Yeah. The taper makes a big diff in how easy it is. It also makes a stronger splice, from what I read.

It came as a pleasant surprise to me that among the tools still made in the US are some that monopolize the category at Walmart, of all places.

Yes, the aluminum knitting needles, including the ones that can be feedstock of home-made fids, are all made in the US.

Actually, I think you could go with three soft shackle prusiks with your setup in most cases. When you wrap the ridgeline around the first tree, just run the line through the fixed loop. I think you only need one end to be adjustable. You can tighten the ridgeline with the prusik on the other end.
I could see where you might run out of ridgeline to tighten the line. In which case, your idea of one prusik per end works better.

I was thinking of doing something like this, but when I saw that knotbones were 55 cents, and Figure 9s were $1.99 at whoopieslings.com, I splurged!
I snagged some s-biners too to add to my little toy collection.

SS- You're correct that I could get away with just 3 prussic shackles. But I want to have a gap at each end so my hammock suspension can go higher than the tarp ridge.
Anyway, this is really just playing around trying different things to see how each different element works in the whole set up.

BAH! Making soft shackles with ZingIt is just too dang hard. I'm just going to use microbiners and CL's.
I've got blisters on my fingers!

I ended up pulling some stainless steal wire through draw plate to make it thinner and stiffer than paper clip wire. I have lengths folded in half with wood handles. It works out real well. With 1.75 zing it I have made fixed eye splices, soft shackles, continuous loops with some great little hooks from DUTCH. I made a 30' ridge line with a no knot set up. A set of true no knot adjustable length self tension guy lines and most recently a zing it whoopie sling! Not sure what the last one is for but I just got so into it I had to do it.
