    Splicing Zing it?

I have been working with large ropes for a while and started working with smaller stuff like 7/64 Amsteel. I make tools for splicing some of the smaller ropes like para chord and amsteel but I am wondering what have people used for splicing 1.75 zing it?

i use floral wire, doubled over. that 1.75 has a very small core and that's all i have really found to work well for me. i just push it through, grab the end of the zing it, then pull it back through. i wish i could find something that I wouldn't have to milk through the zing it though. no splicing tools have been small enough that i could find that would go through it easily

I have been keeping my eyes out for steel guitar strings to try them out. Piano wire works well for most other ropes.

I've had really good success with just a medium sized paper clip folded in half.

I just got me some 2.2 mm Zing-It and have been using a single strand of a Cat 5e data cable with the plastic jacket left on, folded over. I twist the loose ends, but I'm not sure that's necessary. I wouldn't know since I've been making just soft shackles and soft shackle prusiks. You could use any phone or data cable, but I have a couple thousand feet of Cat 5e laying around.

I tried using the Cat 5e with Amsteel Blue 7/64. Since it's a heavier rope, you need something stiffer for Amsteel Blue. It will work with Amsteel Blue, but it takes a little longer to milk it since the copper strand bends so easily.

However, it works great with the 2.2 mm Zing-it, and I would expect better results with the 1.75 mm Zing-It. The Zing-it is so narrow and stiff itself that the "bendable" nature of the data/phone cable doesn't even come into play.

I traded some of my 2.2 mm with Avenger for some of his 1.75 mm Zing-it so I'll be splicing in a few days! As a fallback, I have my son's guitar since he left it when he went off to college.

I have had success using aircraft soft stainless steel lockwire. It comes in numerous diameters,it is flexible (not as flexible copper) and will allow for many amasteel eyes, whoopies and burries before breaking at the bend. The lockwire is usually in 1 lb spools(+200ft) allowing for whatever length of spicing tool wire you require.

for the smaller amsteel the cheapest way i found is a piece of piano wire bent in half. incredibly strong and thin. I had success tonight using stiff steel wire from paper clips and was able to whip together some eye splices, continuous loops, and even a 2 foot whoopie just for kicks in about an hour. I believe the mighty paper clip has won this round. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'm going to keep experimenting.

I use a few different sizes(weights) 8lb and 40lb of wire fishing leader... just happened to be what I had around, and has been working great for about 2 years now. the 8lb for the lash it/ zing it, and the 40 for the amsteel. Both are folded in half like the previous posts about piano wire.

I have been using electric guitar strings on 1.75 mm Zing It.

I grabbed a pack at Target the other day for about $4 and have found that the B string, at 0.011 mm diameter has been working well for me. The high E string at 0.009 mm diameter didn't work well for me.

Guitar String. I think a .19 gauge, non-wound. I've used .11 as well, but it likes to split the weave.
