Not enough bandwidth here to list all Ive learned, but what I remember most indeed is the friendship & the campfires. Both seem to go together naturally.

Go to new places to hang

Chance to check out how others are hanging their hammocks, tarps ect

Chance to see gear that I do not have in action

Win neat stuff at the raffles

Meet new people with common insterest

    Eat new foods

Meet people face to face you have "talked to" and or read about on the forum

One of these days my schedule will allow for a group hang. I can not wait to hang with some of you and learn all of the intricacies of the hammocking world.

    I LOL'd at this!

I read this to my wife and she said, "Well, he's right! I'm surprised you've kept me around for as long as you have without trading me in on a different model!"

She then added, "And you always have a different vehicle!"
What can I say? I love cars! All of them!
(Yes. I'll be in another new vehicle this year!)

    ...but I digress...

To me, it's always been about the friendships. At this point, I really consider my hangin' buddies a part of my family. I always look forward to these events to see my "family" and meet new folks in the hopes that it grows larger. I've never met a better group of people from all walks of life. Everyone brings something different to the campfire, and I cherish each and every second I'm around them and learn new things from them.

So many great memories! It's the one thing that can never be taken from me.

Mike, your original post really summed it up perfectly!

Anyone reading this that has NOT attended a group hang needs to immediately go to the "trip planning" sub-forum and find the one nearest you and SIGN UP!

And I hope to be going with Perrito. Sounds like fun!

I'm trying to "pimp" my hammock so nobody laughs at my setup. I've got Zing-It 2.2 mm and Amsteel Blue 7/64 at hand, with Zing-It 1.75 mm on order, along with Nite-Ize S-Biners, Knot Bones and Figure 9s. The postman usually arrives between 2:45 and 3 pm, but lately he's been f..king with me and showing up early. So now I check the mail box every hour for the new stuff. It's killing me. I should have paid for something I could track online instead of "first class postage." The waiting is the hardest part.

Once I get all my stuff, I'm gonna practice setting up and tearing down so I look like a seasoned hanger rather than a total noob. And I'm trying to lighten my pack load, which is just wearing on my last nerve. There is just so much weight you can trim before you have to reach for the wallet. I'm also training for the pre-hike so I don't need to be defibrillated on the trail (I'm sure someone has an ultralight or DIY version of a trail defibrillator).

And I'm trying to figure out what to bring to the potluck and how to transport it!

These hangs sound like so much fun; I can't wait. It's stressing me out just waiting for it!

But JJ's not here to poke fun at, so we wont talk about it.

I hate group hangs...it makes me want to go out more and meet more people from the forum.
