Thanks again for the compliments guys.
I spent another night in this. Same setup as last report.
temps were forecast to hit 2F.
But, we only saw 10F
Winds were 5-8mph
I was very warm and compfortable.
I could get a summary of the suppliers, and costs together with a little work.
give me a few days to write it up for you.
instructions: now we are talking about some serious time involved, not to mention the loads of questions..
I want to help, but this is a large task. Let's see what kind of time I can find to work on this.
The inflation system is just borrowed from these guys enlightened equipment
I'm unsure if the idea was theirs originally or not.
The flashlights, we'll just keep that stuff separate. anyone has any questions, let me know.
This is a discussion that could become a complicated one.
Building a hammock from nylon with a built in UQ would be quite tricky because of stretch. Also, remember that nylon absorbs moisture and will stretch more when "wet"
Compressing your insulation would be difficult to avoid.
I use simple DIY gathered end hammocks. The cost of a new hammock for different conditions seems trivial compared to the UQ cost.
Why not have 3+ different hammocks/quilts?
As a Minnesotan, I envision my systems evolving in this direction:
Warm setup (summer, July-August) Standard single layer gathered end with sewn in bug net with zipper. Light removable Down UQ.
Spring/Fall setup - Similar construction as my cuben (built in UQ) model. Hammock made with some breathable polyester fabric with little stretch. lightweight nylon quilt shell, down insulation. Removable bug sock.
Winter - Cuben setup with built in UQ
