    Hammocking with a dog

So, I would like to know what everyone does when they go out with their dog.. I have a 70lb black lab and having him in my hammock don't sound like fun. He has gone on some outing in a tent he does alright but scares easily My idea was to use my Guide Gear in winter mode staked to the ground or maybe even adding a bottom so it would function as a tent.

We usually tie ours off to the suspension and give them a ground mat to sleep on. We try to keep the lead short enough to keep them from getting tangled up on any line. If the gf has her way I will be making hammocks for them to sleep in under us.

I also have a black lab that does trips with me. I don't leash her any more (I usually only stealth camp in national forest so it's not a big worry). She likes to try to crawl into my friends tents and has even gotten into their food ( I got them a bear bag). She is getting better and usually sleeps near by or on my half pad under the tarp if it's raining. In the winter I put more for her in my Polk. I also have a Superfly for the winter to keep the wind, ect off both of us.

My hiking partner is my pup Kiba. She's done a bunch of overnighters and I think I've finally got our sleep system right.

I use some amsteel and make her a ridgeline from the two trees I use for my hammock. I run into just below my hammock and she is tied to it. So, she can walk around at night if she wants and I don't have to worry about her getting lost. She is only 22Ibs though and sleeps with me in my hammock.

But, with your dog I bet you could do the same thing and have him sleep under your hammock.

Here is a vid of one of our overnighters.

I've exchanged messages with forum member Lordofmt who regularly takes his labs with him when camping. Takes some training, but appears doable.

I was interested in training my now 14 week old lab pup to go with me. I am not opposed to training her to sleep in the hammock with me, but may also put together a gear hammock type setup for her and try that out.

I let mine roam. He usually stays up on guard most of the night and sleeps during the day! Wish I could bring him more places. Where I go locally, he's not allowed on the trail

sounds like what I thought everyone might be doing.. I dont mind him running around cause I know he wont run off . he is just a scary cat and think if I leave him in the open Ill find him in the hammock.. in the tent he stays on his mat.. guess the best way is to just go for it and work out the bugs later..

i've got a german shepherd that i take. i made a single layer that hangs below me but i have a side pull out that i tension out so she's not directly under me. i put a pad in there so when she walks in she isn't as freaked out. took about a dozen in and outs in the basement to get her comfortable with it. the frenchies on the other hand thinks it's a romper room when both of them are in there.

ive let my dog sleep with me in the hammock. ive only done one overnight with her and it was during a thunderstorm so neither of us slept (she is a big baby about lightning). but she will nap with me when i set up during the day. to be fair she is about 23lbs so she is much smaller than a lab. ive been trying to come up with some plans on a mat that she can either lay on the ground with or in the hammock with.
Tucker: So I suppose if you are helping us you arent as mean as I thought...
Tex: I wouldnt say Im mean, I just get hired to do mean things.
    Tucker: But you like it.
Tex: Well I think its important to enjoy what you do.
