    Primaloft UQ and TQ's

For those of you that have made UQ and TQ I was wonder how thick you have made you item and how low you have gone comfortably with them? Also how do they pack down?

I am currently working on a TQ that I'm going to put some of the loose primaloft in from Downlite to see how it work, it is a lot more work with the baffles etc... than my original plan, but will save some money if it works good.

I'm planing on having a little over 3" inches of loft on it. Guesstimating the total weight should be around 2.5 lbs when done, using 1.9 ripstop... I'm snapping some shots along the way and will post when completed...

I made a Pl UQ out of 9oz/yd material, and I'd rate it as about a 5F toasty quilt. I've had it down to 2F without freezing, but I was a smidge cool.

It weighs 38.0 oz., and has a layer of 6oz. and 3 oz Pl.
    Here's it in it's stuff/storage sack sack.
And compressed most of the way down. Think soccer or basketball.
I don't know if you've already ordered it or anything, but take a look at The Rainshed. They have Primaloft pretty cheap, and several different weights. They've gotten a lot of my business over the last couple years.

I am making a TQ and UQ this upcoming week out of Primaloft.

I am going for a 7oz total which should get me to around 10F. I went with a layer of 3oz and a layer of 4oz.

I'll post pics when I'm done

PF thanks for the link. I've order the stuff for this project, but their prices look pretty good.

ljcsov, I'll be looking for pic and updates on the project...

I'm also looking into making a UQ with primaloft sport. I was just wondering if the ripstop that you use needs to be calendared or not. I assumed it didn't because the insulation is in sheet form but then on Rainshed's site it warns against "fiber migration." Just wondering what you guys have used and whether you have had any problems.

    That's good to know!
Do you know if you used calendared or uncalendared ripstop?
And what weight was the ripstop?

I used calendared to be safe. I think you might have issues with non calendared. Treat it like down, especially if it is NOT in sheets.

I went with 1.1 ripstop. Of course, you could opt for heavier ripstop if you wanted some sort of increased durability. Nonetheless, most opt for the 1.1 due to the lightness and sufficient level of durability.
