where can i find instructions for a marlin spike hitch?

FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

I also have a video on it on my blog www.watermonkey.net in the hammock camping section under suspension. Its with the whoopie sling section. I'd post video but I'm using my blackberry to write this.

Yes, it really is nothing more complicated than a slip-knot with a stick/ toggle in the noose.
The wrong way, though, achievable half the time, does not result in the self-cinching on the toggle you want.

The standing part, in the illustration, should continue around the tree.

To add to that, you DO NOT want your marlinespike hitch to collapse into a slip-knot. It will jam, and may even roll out of the line. To prevent this, make sure you pull on both ends of the line when tightening the knot.
