    Amsteel Loops

I know that I can buy them, but I would like to make some for an upcoming DIY project.

What is the easiest way to make loops from amsteel?

I am hoping for a method using a knot of some sort (or 2 knots in combination), but may be willing to learn about splicing if I don't have to buy much tricky gear and spend years in a monastery learning the arcane art of the splice...

    Thanks HF!

Double or triple fisherman's sounds a bit like what you are looking for...

Spliced loops are SUPER easy. The size of the rope determines the size of the wire. If you are using 7/16" or 1/8" you can use a wire coat hanger. You can't get much simpler then that!

The fishermans knots mentioned above work very well (but I wouldn't trust them for weight-bearing uses), I find the knot 'gets in the way' and looks ugly, but for practical purposes it works very well.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

Splicing the Amsteel sounds daunting, but it really isn't. The trickiest part I've found is making sure the buries are the right length, (but you can still kinda fudge it a little). When you hold the Amsteel and mess with it a bit, it will become very apparent as to how you splice it.

This site is so amazing. I couldn't imagine better instructions and reviews, and people...
I don't think that all knots will hold very well in this material. Its pretty slick stuff., but the splicing is nice.
    Good luck!
Here is an end to end splice link too.

As far as weight goes the knot combination should work fine for weight-bearing since the Prusik loop (using triple fisherman's) was made for rescue climbing. The weight-bearing abilities of that size Amsteel using those knots (for weight-bearing they suggest using the triple fisherman's)... now I don't know about that

Either way it's probably a good knot to learn so that you can make a safe/secure loop when you are out in the woods and aren't able to splice something.

Why would you not trust them for weight-bearing uses? To my amateur eyes it looks like a pretty good constrictor type knot.

I already have a broken tailbone (snowboarding ) so I will take whatever education and instruction on hammock-drop-prevention I can get.
