    Switchback vs. Night Owl

These 2 hammocks are relatively new to me. Just wondered if anyone has ever had both and would be willing to offer a comparison. I've read quite a few posts about each and people seem to pretty happy with both, but haven't seen them compared to each other. Searched HF and google, but didn't come up with any other threads. Any opinions?

Excellent question! I have been biting my lip, waiting to ask it myself. Since the Owl is so new, I was wondering when there would be enough of them out there such that the Owl & the Switchback would cross paths.

I have a Switchback and it is by far he most comfortable hammock I havetried - but I haven't tried an Owl.

I have, however, been following all the threads about the Owl. From the way the owners are "hooting" about them (sorry, couldn't resist), the descriptions of their experience sounds just like the Switchback.

You are very perceptive to have picked up on this!

When people make comments like this I always wonder what other hammocks they have tried For example, if you have tried either the blackbird by warbonnet or the BMBH by JRB or the doublenest by ENO (the three hammocks I have) and you like the switchback better then I would be very tempted to buy one myself!

Good point! Comparisons don't mean much if you don't know what it's compared to. Reminds me of jazz vocalist's Les McCann's song, "Compared to what?" from the late 60's.

I have a WBBB dbl 1.1, Grand Trunk Ultralight and Switchback dbl 1.7 (original), a DIY, and I have slept in an ENO Double.

First question... I've been away... What is this Night Owl?

I have three different Switchbacks, and they are all my favorite hangs hands down. Preference: 1.1 dbl classic SB, 1.9 sl netless SB, 1.1 dbl SBLH (even though I've spent the most nights in the SBLH).

I've also had three WBBB - 1.0 dbl, 1.1 dbl, and 1.7 dbl. Still have the 1.1 dbl and I tinker with it, but am considering selling.

The Night Owl is a hammock made by the folks at Wilderness Logic. It's a netless hammock made of 1.5 ripstop and is double layer. Its main claim to fame is that each end has cordage running in the top seams of the hammock allowing you to pull these cords to create a head or foot box.

Ive tried both. Along with a traveler, BB, BMBH, ENO, HH, Clark......

Out of those, my goto was the traveler. Simple, comfy. Till I tried the Owl. Ive finally narrowed my comfort to the Night Owl and my Grizz Bridge. For me they both just work and fit how I sleep without any fussing.

Thanks guys. Hey Opie, I know you tried both, but didn't say much about the switchback. Anything you didn't care for, or is it just that you liked the others better?

i started with a dbl 1.7 BB in the hope that i had the "end all" hammock. the BB is a great hammock.
after a while i realized that the majority of my outings are when the bugs and temps are lower. i soon found myself thinking about a no net hammock and began searching and reading.
i decided to go with the Night Owl knowing, from the reading i had been doing, that longer is flatter.
it took me one night to get the sweet spot dialed in and become accustomed to the differences.
i added a SRL for consistency and to hang an organizer to use in the place of the BB shelf. the BBs side pull outs relieve some shoulder squeeze but they also cause the sides to obstruct the view and keep the breeze above you so there is less cooling from the summer breeze.
the NO has no side ties and allow both cool air and scenic views. the NO allows a flatter sleeping positions and a swinging sensation that i find very restful.
both are great hammocks but i haven't used my BB since the NO came to town.

sorry i have no experience with a SB but i hope to try one out someday.
