Let's Talk Tarp Stakes

I am very impressed with the 9" Coghlans tent stakes. These tent stakes are light and super strong, I was not able to bend one by hand.

They are only 2.99 for a four pack at academy.

I've been using the coughlins sheppard hooks for sometime now, mainly because they're cheap and you don't have to order online. They work fine, but I'm in the market for a lighter ti-stake.

To those of you who have used multiple types of titanium stakes, what's your favorite? Zpacks? Lawsons? Vargo? Etc...

i felt good enough when i got lawson's that i didn't need to buy any others... my buddy finskie has some from papa smurf that are a tad lighter than lawson's, but not as strong.

For me, Groundhogs. They're the trifecta: light, durable, unlikely to pull out. That's really what I need, especially in the sandy FL soil.

For me, it depends on the soil conditions where I'll be camping. If it's rocky and hard, I use the steel Coleman stakes. Ask a couple of people that I loaned a couple to on past hangs). If it's going to be sandy, I use sticks fashioned into long stakes. For pretty much any other soil condition, I use my nifty Hammockforums.net aluminum stakes.

I just picked up some Groundhogs and haven't had a chance to use them yet. They look like they are something that should hold well.

Has anyone changed out the string to something lighter? Or would smaller diameter cut too easily?

For 3 season I've settled on Lawson's ti stakes. Held out surprisingly well in a VERY windy night/day.

For winter snow I use the good old fashioned snow stakes.

However for those bitterly cold days where the ground is cement. Roofing nails.

To me stakes are my last resort, since most of my camping is along a river. I use rocks, tree stumps, or any number of things, if they are available. I carry groundhogs for normal use and a SMC T-anchors for sand/snow, if I think they may be necessary. They are pricey but really work, and I have used them in both sand and snow.
