You had 50 ft of Zing it and nothing to use it on?
if you mean a continuous RL, it depends on the tarp. if yours has a curve in the RL, then a 2 piece RL is better. if yours is flat, a continuous RL is better because it can add height to the interior of the tarp and keep the peak from drooping.

....and easily adjusting and centering the tarp over the hammock ends so they are neatly under the tarp so you stay good and dry in a deluge.

A CRL under the tarp adds a bit of structural rigidity to the tarp (especially helpful for heavy snow conditions), allows for easy adjustments of the tarp, and gives you a place to air/dry out trail clothes.
A CRL over the tarp allows for easy adjustments of the tarp,...thats about it. This is the type of CRL to use if your ridgeline has a cat cut.
Seperate ridgeline tie offs save weight over the CRL.
