2sticks at BSF with special guest "Mom"

2sticks at BSF with special guest "Mom"

We had the opportunity to get out for an overnighter in the Big South Fork. 2sticks and I normally are on our own but we had a special guest called Mom who went on her first overnight hike and hang with us. The weather was near perfect and company was great! The pics below are linked to the larger size.

    Mom, 2sticks, and hangnout

    Pics from along the trail

    Pics from camp

Mom took this from her hammock. I think she understands now!

Pics of DIY Cuben Tarp and Bridge Hammock

This is a "heavy" cuben tarp. It is made of .71 cuben. It is all bonded with 3M 9460 with no sewing even on tieouts. 11' ridgeline, 13' baseline, and weighs about 10 oz for tarp. This is still more than half the weight of a similar sized silnylon tarp.

Bridge hammock is my lightest one to date. It is made from 1.5 ripstop nylon from diygearsupply. I used 7/64 amsteel for the side arcs. The triangles are dynaglide and the suspension is 7/64 amsteel. Packed in the cuben sack minus tree straps it is 9.55 oz. This includes the aluminum hardware that is used to attach my hiking poles I use for spreader bars.

Video of our family overnighter in the Big South Fork

Fair Warning! Not a lot of gear talk on this family outing and lots of stuff that the grandparents enjoy. When 2sticks is shooting the video may be a little shaky.

I had some trouble with the audio on the camera. You may have to change the volume to hear some sections of the video.

Hey Hangnout, great shots up at BSF--love the terrain up there. Really liked Two Sticks and her videography! Like your cuben tarp and bridge hammocks as well. Thanks for sharing what looked like a great fall trip together.

Hangnout, how old was 2sticks when she first started joining you on hiking trips?
Yosemite Sam: Are you trying to make me look a fool?
Bugs: You don't need me to make you look like a fool.
Yosemite Sam: Yer deerrrnnn right I don't!

We started camping out away from the house when she was 5yr old. These were just short hikes on our property She started going on real hikes when she was about 7.5. She can stay in the woods all day and night camping but the hiking is not her favorite part of the trips We had lots of breaks the first few trips but she now. understands the distance/time it takes to get to camp. She will leave me in the dust when she wants to. I would not trade the time on these hikes for anything.
