Looks like HB took an extra hammock just for lounging in base camp. Not a bad idea.

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.

Thanks. CB was the real photographer/videographer on this outing.
I'm looking forward to it with a bit of trepidation

We actually had four of them. HB and I were going to make bush chairs. I hung mine as a camp chair before coffee and then we put up two more. Never felt the need to change

HB went crazy (as usual). He had cut an ENO in half to make his with a built in pocket/beverage holder. Then he added the ridgeline and organizer for show

I'm jealous as I can't get outside right now due to the skeeter invasion in our area.

    Nice pictures.

That's a nice solution for hanging out near the camp fire and camp central, leaving the sleeping gear at a safe distance

It worked out just about perfect, which is the exception to the norm. We had a tiny fire for coffee making and food prep since campfires are prohibited in the wilderness. The trees were close enough to hang from and also close enough to the fire

Thanks for clearing that up. At first, I thought that HB had done growed a whole bunch!

Oh, and I kept lookin' up to see the Draconids shower every time I was outside Friday and Saturday evenings. I thought that I was just incredibly unlucky, but it sounds like maybe they just weren't as spectac'lar as expected.

    Thanks for the trip report.

What a beautiful day we had Saturday, the views seemed to go on forever there.

At the top of Black Balsam Knob is a dedication plaque for the man who loved these mountains and the trail was named after.

And while Geo Cashing we found a Cairn.

We went quite a ways looking for one cash and never did find it.

At the highest point on Black Balsam Knob it is 6201 feet.

    The last flower of Summer.

This guy needed a big pack to go with his big cook pot!

Once back at camp HB pulled out a prototype of his sawdust stove. A much smaller version of the big ones because he made this one out of 2 coffee cans. I thought it was a great way to have a fire. I roasted my hot dogs over it faster than the guys using charcoal. this is the inside of it while it is burning It's red hot and burned like that for 3 hours!

When we awoke the next morning we were in low clouds. That's not smoke you see beyond where I was laying in my hammock. Bands of mist were blowing through and creating lots of moisture.

After coffee we packed up and headed out. It was a great trip and I'm glad I got to hang with the Hendersonville Brothers again and finally get to meet Carolina Backpacker.
