Those socks look great for winter camping. I saw ldcakes with her sock last winter and when she opened it up on a 26 degree morning, the heat waves rose up out of that thing.

Yes Mad777, Mine is the insulated one with one layer of Insultex made of uncoated 1.7 rip stop nylon. And is best used when the temps get down below freezing. An "uninsulated" one is on my list for those in-between times like around 35 & 40 degrees when you want more breathability.

And it's def. a champ to block the wind. Last year on Roan Mt we hung on a 20 degree, snowy windy night and I did not have a winter tarp yet with doors. The snow blew sideways as it is always a wind tunnel up there. When I awoke the sock was encrusted with snow but I was dry as a bone and warm. I also like the privacy it lends too!

Thanks sweetbabyd! I got them from DirtyGirlGaiters.com. If you're not familiar with them, she sells all different colors and designs. If you are, then I guess I don't need to tell you how great they are. I like them for warmer periods to help prevent ticks from getting in around my cuffs.

Mickey, were you able to test out your new MARPAT/Supplex/Fleece TQ?

I sure didn't. We ran out of room in our packs, so I left it in the truck. I plan on testing it out this weekend at MAHHA though. I want to see if I can stay warm enough by generating heat in the sock (from underneath) using a heavy UQ and simply using the fleece TQ. I think it will work in the temperatures we're expecting.

Regardless of the outcome, I'll be sure to post a report with pics once we're all back.

Wow, that's awesome Idcakes. I knew I wasn't doing Mac's Hammock Sock justice, but I didn't have any other experience with it. I'm even more convinced that the sock will/should be part of my base-rig from Fall to late Spring. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Some of you may have noticed that the ends of the MMG Hammock Sock with SEEP are no longer closed. Originally, the ends were closed, and the SEEP was a five and a half foot long opening. You had to thread the hammock through the sock, then hang the hammock and sock together.

Now, the SEEP is full length, and the whole sock simply wraps around the hammock and UQ, with a single shock cord tie at each end. The Dutch SEEP is the same; both lower and upper closures are full length, and the ends of the sock are open. It closes up when you toss the SEEP over the top. It works with a structural ridgeline, and it works with no ridgeline at all. You can use a non-structural ridgeline with the sock, but it really isn't necessary.

I'll soon be using my Canvas Hammock Sock with Dutch SEEP, for weather well below freezing. LDCakes makes a good point about the privacy. Socks are like your own Japanese Capsule Hotel in the woods!

Ok, now y'all need to give up where you're getting the MARPAT material. I've been looking around for that stuff off and on for a while now with ZERO success. Is the Supplex ok to make a hammock with? Is it available in anything that is ok to make a hammock from?

Mickey got it at this place, which I suggested. I am not able to get it wholesale except in very large quantities, so Mickey bought it and sent it to me.

Is the Supplex ok to make a hammock with?

Ed Speer used to make hammocks with Supplex. I think it is great material for a hammock. I've make hammocks with much weaker material, including WalMart fabric of "unknown origin," and none have torn yet. (Thing1 sleeps in one every night!)
