    I might be in trouble

My friend's mom gave me her old Pfaff sewing machine from the 80's. It just needed a little bit of oil, and it works great.

Now the pandora's box is open. I started out simple - just a new hammock (about 10' long this time, just in time for MAHHA) and stuff sack. The stitching isn't amazing, but it's way better than my last attempt (on another friend's machine). Then some quick and dirty wrist warmers. I'm having quite a bit of trouble with silnylon (maybe a little too ambitious at this point), but I suppose eventually I'll have a new tarp.

I had some extra amsteel, so a made another pair of whoopie slings, then some continuous loops and soft shackles (for no specific purpose). Now I have to order more of that.

    Meanwhile, papers go ungraded

I have a feeling I might be past saving, and the only thing I have to look forward to now is an empty bank account and a lot of late, frustrating evenings, full of colorful language. I suppose I can use extra gear to try and convert some friends...

Making gear is the best addition.

Yep, you're in deep trouble. It's only getting started. Take a look at others on this sight and see the future.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do next. I need to find some advice on working with silnylon before I finish the tarp. I'd really like an UQ for winter, but I'm worried it might be a bit beyond me at this point. So, I'm wide-open to suggestions.

It's pretty sweet. I was really excited (probably more than was reasonable) when I heard that she was going to give it to me (I wasn't even expecting it). Now a motorcycle... I wonder if anyone's got one of those lying around that they're not using

Actually, you just *think* making gear can get expensive. Try getting a "free" motorcycle on the road. Pop by one day, I'll give you one & you can see for yourself :P

Well if you happen to get fired for not working, then you will have plenty of time to work on your gear.

Point well taken (still - don't say it if you don't mean it )

Nothing spectacular to show yet, but I'll snap what I've got at MAHHA this weekend. I'll try and make a Jerry Chair this week (then I guess I'll have to buy some trek poles to support it. oh well).

Yeah, for now, as long as it doesn't come apart, I'm happy. Still figuring out the whole tension thing.

Yeah, it's scary, but a whole lot of fun--grading papers is just scary (I've a stack or two sitting neglected, and quarter grades go out Friday )

If only had a place in my apartment where I could combine a hammock and the need to grade papers...
