Hi,
I'm Davy Ray. I live in western North Carolina. I started backpacking years ago, and eventually settled on using a Hennessy Hammock Expedition 2.5 for most of my solo hikes. I really enjoyed using it, and the weight was better than most tents I could afford. I was doing some AT section hiking at that time. I was a big HH fan, and read all of SGT Rock's experiments with pads and under-side warmers. Also was a big fan of thru-hiker.com (thanks AYCE).
I kind of tapered off on the backpacking for a few years.
Fast forward to a year ago. I loaned my ancient HH 2.5 to an Internet buddy from another forum, as he was about to go canoeing through the Boundary Waters. I have not asked for the HH back.
I now have a Grand Trunk Ultralight, which I have started modifying. It now has whoopie slings and modified attachments at each gathered end. Those are my first 7/64 whoopie slings. They are not perfect, and I have not tested them properly. Time to take a trip!
I went through a tent design phase several years ago, so have lots of material scraps. I have been a customer of OWF, and have had many conversations with the fine staff people there. I hope to avoid the need to make lots of hammocks, but know in advance that it is too late.
Great forums. Drop me a line if you want to arrange some fall and winter hikes in my general area.
