Not always available. Hence, the request for help with a stand.

Do this! I'd like to see the finished product.
I just replaced a steel bicycle frame with a Ti one and I'm guessing you
are looking at $1500 for the materials and welds...but I bring up bicycles for
a reason. There are several bike companies who work Ti, as in order it, keep it in stock
cut it, weld it, and so on...and they have on hand either the human brains required or the software to do the math on the forces. One would expect the forces on a bike frame to be far greater than a hammocker in repose. So mentally I unfolded my bike frame and added the lenghts needed, even with Ti to get the lengths you need you'll be between 5-7 pounds with the total frame. Still be wonderful thing to see.

Got any pointers or connections to one?

The idea I have in mind would not need welding. The arm tubes would fit through a hole in the bottom cross bar and then through the top of foot tubes.

even with Ti to get the lengths you need you'll be between 5-7 pounds with the total frame.
5lb would definitely be packable. $1500 might be prohibitive, but I bet there are people who'd pay that.

I'm also wondering what the weight would be for aircraft-grade aluminum tubing.

If I could get some tubing free, I'd just try my idea out and see if it breaks

Love your persistance! I'd guess right about the air aluminum being doable and much more affordable. No connections--only a VISA card HA!

If you're not dead set on that style, you could easily make a backpackable stand. If it were me, I'd do the inverted V w/ guyline style, using aluminum tent poles.

    How about this idea
    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=34776
with titanium poles of the same diameter instead of nesting them as Alamosa did,
    or this idea
    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...=Hammock+Stand
and using them as trekking poles? Much simpler, lightweight, and they multi-task!
