Eddie Bauer Pack Throw, any good? Calling owners!

Im going to either "DIY" me a TQ out of the EB packable throw, or just break down and buy something pro made.

I want to know what your guys opinion is on these things as a TQ, temps (relative, i know) etc.

Im usually wearing whatever i wore that day for clothes, so nothing fancy (not into layers, so think jeans or northface pants, tshirt etc.)

i figure for right under $100 it may not be a bad idea

600 fill power down, but its a tad short...5ft X ~4

But it could be easily modified into a 3/4 length UQ. While the down is only 600 fill power, the price is pretty attractive. Sew some grosgrain tunnels on the four sides for suspension and drawcords and you are good to go.

IMHO, the throw is too short for a TQ.

Smashtorrent evidently bought two, cut a foot off one and sewed it to the second to make it long enough for a TQ.

It has .75 - 1 inch of loft. So, using the calculations that some of our cottage manufacturers employ, that should be a 50-55* quilt.

I probably won't take mine out in temps colder than 50* but I have a quilt for every season and would rather be over prepared and have to vent or throw my quilt off than shiver the night away (I've done that a handful of times and it is not enjoyable).

Dunno if it helps but I picked up a rei sub kilo mummy bag the other day in their sale for around $100 .....750 fill, 29 oz, packs to around 7 x 15 ....cut of the hood and you have a ready made top quilt

ah, so id be better off saving a good deal of money and buying more poncho liners...kk.

If you're using this off a bike, just throw a blanket on the back and go. I never wear jeans in the wilderness because they are never going to dry in cooler temps and also get stinky fairly fast. Not to mention they're heavy and hot in warmer temps. Watch steepandcheap.com and maybe you can be lucky enough to buy a 30 degree down sleeping bag for $100. Used to see them on their all the time. I'm 5'5 and the Eddie Bauer throw is too small for me.

The throw ended up making a great 50 degree UQ though. The channels are already there, just cut the seam on the corner and feed your bungee through.
