    Ready to hang in NE Ohio

    This forum is dangerous! After reading all the DIY stuff, I had to make my own. Unfortunatley I couldn't drag my butt out at 1 am to test my new gathered end hammock last night, but I am pleasantly suprised how well it turned out.

    Made tree straps, and whoopies too, hope to test at lunch!

    Already pondering a diy UQ, tarp and skins too. Last night was the first 'thread injecting' I have done since 8th grade home ec, and now I feel I need to get one so I don't need to drive to Mom's basement when I want to make something.

    Thanks to all the inovators here, I can see this taking much of my winter free time!

    Well, welcome! I remember how strange the idea of homemade camping gear seemed to me when I read about it for the 1st time in Aug. But it's easy to succumb to the DIY bug. At first I started nervously modifying a top quilt, then came across an amazing deal on silnylon (6 yds for $2.50!) so had to make a gathered hammock & last weekend made an IX UQ. So much information/clear instructions on this site. I'm impressed with your making whoopie slings - I'm still mystified by those things. You're in the wrong part of the state for this but I just noticed a hangout weekend after this down near Athens. If you can make it we can admire each others handiwork.
