I had a hard time at first and found I wasn't finessing it enough and milking it as I went. But then on Beep's recommendation I bought a Loop Turner and it made it even easier. I found mine at WalMart for about 3 bucks in the sewing department.

when working with small amsteel( 1/8>7/64 i use small guage solid wire i think it was 24-26 guage(no insulation either) a far cry from a coathanger! the wire is not formed into a hook, but rather just bent in the middle and the loop end is run thru the amsteel and exits . there you pass the tapered line thru that wire loop.and you then have to work it a bit to get the doubled, tapered amsteel back thur the wall of the "standing" amsteel. hope this works for ya

This exactly what I do. I initially tried heavier wire with a hook in just the end, but that kept geting hung up on the return trip through the Amsteel.

Like waldo and MAD I have used this method without issue. If you have one of the picture hanging kits, that comes with the solid strand wire in it, use the wire like described above and you should have no issues.

If you taper the ends properly it should be easy to feed the line threw. There is a good video on YouTube, where the guy uses 1/8th amsteel to make some whoppie slings and it was very helpful for me to watch it before trying to make them.

This is great info. Hope you all can help me too. I spent about 3 hours Saturday making my first Whoopie Sling. It was a painful process and here's why...

I'm using Amsteel Blue 7/64 Silver color (the 8 strand version). There are two strands of Green and Red fiber that run through the center of the Amsteel Blue, and the problem I had was on the return trip through the rope these green and red fibers kept getting tangled around the rope I was pulling through the middle.

I haven't seen anyone else mention this problem, so I'm wondering...do I need to remove these strands, or should I be doing something else different?

I was also concerned that maybe the difference between Amsteel Blue and Amsteel are these strands, and that maybe I should be using Amsteel instead of Amsteel Blue (not sure if this makes any sense to you all).

Hopefully someone else out there has been down this road and can help explain this to me. Thanks in advance everyone!
