    First Solo

I am leaving tomorrow afternoon to go on my first solo backpacking trip. The plan is for two nights and two days. This will also be the first time using my new suspension, UQ, and mini atomic. I will post the entire trip plan, my experiences and videos from the trip once I return and have time to transfer them to my computer.
For those of you that are Christians, I ask for your prayers. I am going out to wrestle with some hard topics and as this will be my first real solo (I've been out with others and done a short solo away from others for a night, knowing they were nearby), I am a little nervous.

All of that being said, I am really excited and plan on telling you all about it.

    Leave a Map

Leave a map of where you will be with a friend or a relative, and also leave a copy on the driver's seat of your vehicle. That way, if you don't come back when due, people will at least know where to look for you.

Be careful and carry more warm clothes than you think you'll need. More people die of hypothermia between 60-70 deg F than any other temperature.

    Have fun.

I am leaving a very detailed plan and several maps detailing my plan with a few trustworthy family members and friends (like my wife).

The idea to bring more warm clothes is noted and something I needed to hear. Particularly as I have been trying to cut out as much weight as possible.

A hammocker version of a vision quest, how awsome is that?! I'll pray for ya, and I know it's a sin but I'll envy ya as well. Be safe, have fun, I'll look forward to the vids.

The first solo trip can be scary, just remember there is more to be scared of walking down the street in town than in the woods.

Have a wonderful time while you are out there, it will all pass far too soon. I can't wait for the trip report.

Just remember if you hear any strange howling at night... its just Man-Bear-Pig stubbing his toe. You'll be fine.

On your first solo I would recommend taking a little more than you think you might need. A little extra weight on your first solo is not a bad thing IMO. When you are with others there is always a back up in terms of clothes, gear, food etc. I have to admit that on my first solo years ago it took a little time to just get used to being out there alone. After that, the solitude was good for the mind, body and soul. Travel safe.
