    Question Silk batting for underquilt

I'm new to hammock camping after my wife bought me a HH Asym last fall. I've been lurking for a few weeks and learning what I can about homemade hammocks. I made a ZHammock and now want to try an insulated hammock ala WarmHammock V2. Has anyone tried using silk batting for the insulation? I found this site while searching for crib batting and wonder how that would work for lightweight and warm insulation.

I ordered the sample of silk batting (currently $2) and would like any opinions from others about the idea.

Might have potential. I'd ask about weight and compression...will it re-loft after you pack it down?

Good luck on your project...pics would be great!

    JJ, et al,

I did the math on their site... it works out to 4 oz / sq yd based on thier stated size and weight for a queen size piece. That is heavy IMHO.

I was looking at the crib size, which lists as a little less than 3 oz./yd. Some of the hammock quilt making sites listed '4oz Primaloft' for insulation, I just assumed that was a weight of 4 oz per yd., right? Thru-hiker lists 3 oz. Primaloft for $8.65/yd. 60" wide so the silk batting is 4 times the price!

I think the weights are for a square yard.
