    Gear storage question ...

We were out this weekend hammocking in the constant rain. Managed to stay dry and had a good time however I ran into one small problem and I'm just looking for different ideas to deal with it.

When I retired for the night I put my wet rain jacket and pants over the ridge line at the hammock ends under the tarp. In the morning they were both on the ground. Not a huge deal I shook them out and wore them. It wasnt' a huge pour so they weren't muddy or anything. I would however like to avoid that in the future.

I'd like to avoid bringing an extra gear hammock if possible, and all I can come up with that would be light is clothes pins. Any better ideas out there?

I've a WB coming so the shelf will take care of some of my gear issues, but I can't see myself storing wet rain gear in there.

Just wrap those jackets and pants around the ridge a time or two and they should be fine. Tis what I do.

if the cuffs have velcro closures you can hang them by the cuffs.

Zip or button your jacket around the ridge line. The small wire clothes pins don't weight much either.

For drying clothes I carrie 4 or so safety pins. Usually just safety pin the tags to my suspension.

Lots of good suggestions there guys, thanks a lot. I'm going to have to look into the continuous ridgeline idea. Sounds nice to have an option for drying other gear when it is still raining.

You might want to try something like this which eliminates the need for clips and cloths pins and can be strung up under the tarp. I use this when traveling-

When hiking/camping the same thing can be done with extra shock cord. The idea works o.k. when I use the spare zing-it or trip tease in my pack also, it just doesn't hold as tight.

Another option if it's really coming down- I often zip the rain jacket over the end to protect the foot end of the hammock instead of dropping the tarp so that I don't lose the view around me.

I carry 4 of those office clips. I have 2 on my bag and 2 in my ditty. They work like clothe pins and the 2 on the pack can dry socks, t-shirt, etc. while you hike. They have many uses besides that too.
Just when I thought you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!
