Update: REI's 30% off clearance offer (FYI)

Like most of you, I was aware of REI's "30% off any one clearance item" offer. I've been scouring the web trying to decide what, if anything, I "needed". Although I don't have one locally, I knew I was going to a wedding this weekend that would take me to a city with a brick n' mortar store. Went in there today and found a pair of Teva's on clearance only to be told that this store in particular has arbitrarily decided to offer 30% of ANY clearance item, and an UNLIMITED number of items. I filled some old, tired gaps in my outdoor gear today, and saved a TON of money.

I asked if it was a corporate REI rethink on the discount, they said no, but that any other store may employ the same policy. May be worth a call to your local shop! FYI it was the Fresno, CA store.

Gotta love an extra discount. Last week, I bought a new ExOfficio shirt at REI that was marked regular price of $80. At the register, it was on clearance for $49. With the 30% off coupon, that meant a price of $34.30, plus NC sales tax, took the cost to 36.70. Now, conveniently and out of complete conicidence () I had in my pocket a gift card that my son gave me for my birthday. I wasn't sure how much was left on it, but I guessed it was at least $20. It was $34. And that, friends, is now I got an $80 shirt for $2.70.
