My machine does straight, zigzag, bar, and a few other varieties. I do not even know how to use the random varieties let alone the zigzag. I use the zigzag when I want to make a cool stitching pattern where I don't mind if the stitches are visible

I made my ridgeline final hem zigzagged in black on red sil

The replies to this (and similar) threads have been invaluable to me in my search for a worthy machine. I am now the proud new owner of a Necchi BU Nova in pretty fine condition for the princely sum of $30! It runs just fine but looks like it could use a clean internally, so I may take it to the local repair shop for a bit of a refresh.

Also, a big thanks to Ramblinrev for his great video series!

Nice find especially for $30. You might find these Yahoo groups useful.

Yup, I requested to join them the other day but they had me re-apply today due to an email glitch.

Edit: Here's some pics of her, the paint is far from perfect but she's mechanically sound and the stitches seem good. Looks to be missing the zigzag width lockplate/nut but that's far from critical, I'll just keep an eye out for one on Ebay.

Make sure you check those old singers and see if they have any extra attachments. My 201 A has every gizmo you can think of including a zig zag, button hole....etc. Now understanding how and when to use them is another story!

Beware Plan A can be a little excessive .
