    Fixed UQ

An idea: to permanently attach a couple layers of insultex to the bottom of my hammock. For colder temps I would simply bring along a PLUQ, but for most of the year I think 2 layers of IX would suit me fine (i'm a very warm sleeper).

Are there any pitfalls or problems anyone can see from sewing a couple layers of IX to my hammock? To keep the weight down I plan on only adding it the portion of the hammock I occupy. Thanks in advance. DA

are you talking about adding a layer and putting the ix in between or just sewing the ix directly into the hammock cause the latter i would NEVER do cause you making weak spots in the center of the hammock where most of your weight will be held and what is the difference in weight in 4yds of 1.1 or .9 ripstop or even cuben to make an actual UQ and if weight is that much of a problem then you need to be using down and it would be lighter than jsut the ix by itself. I did something similar but attached to a very light under cover and with poly batting. I also made it trapizoidal to cover just the area I use. So far have only used indoors but working great.

For me a 2 layer IX UQ (MM Shamu) is sufficient for most of the year. In the height of summer I often don't even use it. I'd be leery of permanently having IX attached to my hammock unless it was a purpose built fall-spring hammock. Perhaps you live in a location where the spring-fall temps regularly drop below 70Fdeg, IDK, but it just doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
