Inspecting Amsteel

So, like any good hammocker I try to check my gear (really, anyone who does anything should do this). The problem is outside of obvious cuts I don't really know what to look for when inspecting my whoopie slings.

Any tips? The part that most frequently is in the splice looks somewhat compressed. Is that an issue?

Any other things we should be aware of?

When the strands are fraying, the line is weaker. The reason to start with lots of strenght is to have strength to burn.*

Unlike earlier-introduced and still available aramid fiber ropes which were invisibly weakened by microfractures from bending stresses, there are not such reports about Amsteel / Spectra. Nor does UV come in. We are not on the water, in the sunlight for months on end. Your hammock will be UV degraded and break before these lines will from that source.

*Pun, referring to known limitation of this UHMWPE fiber, its relatively low melting point, which should be no issue whatever in these applications.
