GT Ultra light as a liner / second layer?

There are multiple reports of tearing or fatigue failure of the GT Ultralight. But $13 is a fine delivered price for a hemmed liner, 3 yards of finished polyester fabric.

Is there something in DYI or elsewhere in HF, or experience here on using the GT as a liner, that is as the top layer of hammock, with a nylon bottom layer for toughness and lasting strength?

A new understanding of what DL = Double Layer in the TtT and Warbonnet hammocks means -- that they are lined -- leads me think about the GT UL this way, as a comfy lining, especially at Amazon's delivered price.

I havent had a lick of trouble with my GTs..I got 2 of those green ones also.
I did play with them this past weekend, to see if they could just be hung as with the intent of a double layer set up.

Even though the hammocks were the same. the ropes were different lengths on the 2 hammocks and they didnt mate up good enough for my liking to use as a pad sleeve.

For the time being they will just serve as single layer hmks.

I would think you could suspend the primary hammock, and use shock cord to suspend the second hammock. This will allow it to stretch a bit and conform to the upper without having to "match" suspension lengths or come up with some fancy way to keeping the lower one from binding the top one.

I've got a GTUL, maybe I'll try this to see how it works out.

I also have not had any trouble with my GTUL, I think the ripping cases are probably mostly from people horsing around and not treating the hammock right. It doesn't have the high 400lb rating like a lot of other materials give, but that is the trade-off for the weight. Any HF would be fine using this hammock.

That said, I use this as a gear hammock plenty so I imagine it would work for this purpose too! I just hang the UL a notch or two lower off of my suspension than my main hammock and lay everything out in it.

I have used mine for a couple years as a secondary hammock for sitting around the fire. Has a few burn holes in it but never had any tearing problems. The material is very comfy so I think it would make a nice liner.
