Nice pics!!! really surprised the rangers let you hang there esp if the shelter wasn't full.

Who cares about showers, gourmet food, using flush toilets. Just keep on walking and being away from it all.
There are times that the only way you can do something is to do it alone.
Rangers didn't seem to care besides there was 9 people in the shelter but all in all it was a fantastic trip

I love Le Conte. I was thinking of going up there in a few weeks. If there is that much ice...I am not sure. I may need to wait until spring. I take the Alum Cave Bluffs trail. Steep and slick already.
Love the pics. Looks like you had a great time. I've never seen a Ranger while up there.
I leave tomorrow for a hike up LeConte, then Thursday over to Icewater/Charlie's Bunion. Loved the pics and can't wait to get up there myself. Have been to LeConte Lodge three times, but never to LeConte Shelter. Have been to Icewater Shelter before and Charlie's Bunion, but it was completely socked-in with fog and clouds. Saw a pic yesterday of a tiny snowman someone made a Newfound Gap on the 20th, but our forecast for 5,000 elevation in the GSMNP stays above freezing. We'll see.
If anyone would like to tag along, just give a shout. So far, it's me, Fishbone, and Mornin' Bear.
Thanks for sharing the pics, Loose Nuts! (I won't ask!) I have a good pic of your NX-250 from Neo's hammock hang a week ago.

I've been in the shelter at LeConte numerous times. Yes, there is a ranger there. His name is Dave Worth and he recently set the record for the AT through the GSMNP at 14 hours and 50 minutes! He's also done the Alum Cave Trail up in 52 minutes. Nice guy--if you can catch him!
