I switched to paracord from shock cord and find it uncomfortable. When you get the IX UQ snugged up, the cord is by tight your face and calves and hinders a diagonal lay. Loosen it up and it sags underneath.

I put on your version of the horse collars and it seals up well but there was still some CBS.

IMHO insultex is too fussy and is being replaced with a down UQ or climashield UQ.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you. Goes to show it's never one size fits all I guess. I've had pretty good luck w/ my IX UQ and this setup. Hope the climashield or down works out better for you.

Edit:I've never had issues w/ feeling the paracord. I did have this problem when I used paracord in the draft tubes at head and foot which is why I switched to shock cord in these.

Maybe a combination of shockcord and utility/zing-it line like HappyHiker and MAD777 suggest?

Maybe do a combination of shockcord through the channels and a static line through the prussics ala Mad777:

I'll try the combo and see how that works, I dont have the cash for down UQ supplies anyway.

I figured out what the problem was. Initially I sewed on my outer layer wrong and it didnt allow the layers to drape. So, I seam ripped it, sewed it on the right way, added draft tubes, and and added 4 extra pleats on the top later in the corners. Now its working like it should.

Thanks Scum, I almost threw in the towel.

Excellent choice of fly color to show how much this set-up is beginning to qualify adopters for a more advanced rigging and sailing class.

Goal: Every UQ'd hammock a forest dinghy. Or night-schooner. This is looking very very sefistekated.

Best of all, it works, enormously increasing value.

I still do not have an UQ due to lack of funds.
I'm camping this weekend in 35-40 degrees. Car camping so I can carry an extra sleeping bag for an UQ.

I think the Scum Suspension System may be the best method for holding up a heavy sleeping bag.

Any thoughts from someone who has used Scum System?

    Scum Suspension System
    Lol, I like that.

I kinda did it w/ my old sleeping bag once when used like a pea pod. I used it to help hold the bottom up against me and keep the opening from letting all heat evacuate. It worked OK but I wasn't a fan of the pea pod method and my bag was wayyyy too heavy to really be usefull for anything other than car camping. Have slept much more comfy and warmer w/ the IX UQ.

    Scum,
No doubt I want an UQ. Unfortunately, I have to make do.

I think paracord using your system will hold the sleeping bag up.
I may make my "pulleys" go around each tree instead of around my hammock suspension. That may be sturdier. I wll still attach the prussik adjustments to the hammock ridgeline.

With no shock cord, is there a trick to getting in the hammock?
With no shock cord there is no give/
Do you loosen the suspension all the way to get in and then tighten up once inside?

Also, do you think it will be hard to keep the middle section of a sleeping bag up snug against the hammock?
