Hi all,

Another Australian joining the forum there must be quite a few of us now judging from the number of Aussies I've seen while browsing the forum. I've been lurking out here in cyberspace for some time but feel it is time I came out of the hammock closet and joined the rest of you here

I live in the Northern Territory a town called Katherine it's about 300 km south of Darwin the main attraction here is the Katherine Gorge and National Park. (One of my favourite places to hammock, Kayak, hike & fish) some of you may have even been here town sits on an intersection of three major highways.

I got into a hammock a few years ago as a way to stop me doing really stupid things in the dark(will tell the full story in another thread) I initially bought at Tom Claytor for jungle hammock it's been great still the best hammock I have I think

Having discovered the forum I realised there was a lot I could do to improve my gear and hanging technique. Special thanks to all those who contribute their time and knowledge to the forum particularly Shug his videos are entertaining inspiring and educational. Now I just have to stop spending too much money on gear before my wife do something bad to me

Anyway I hope to contribute little I know to the forum, hopefully make some new friends and continue the endless quest for the perfect hammock set up

That's interesting, camp by the river bank and crocs can't get to you on a hammock. Brilliant!

We could start interesting new thread hammocks as croc protection!!!
What do you think hang about 2.5m up! just to make sure to remember if you have a call of nature through the night that first step is a big one.

You’re correct about crocs in this part of the world about 2 km upstream from this spot. A 4.6m what a monster!! & a 3.8m, croc have be trapped and removed from the river this year.

On the more serous side you need to be careful around rivers here, big crocs need big areas of water to sustain them. The river is a series of ponds and rapids in the dry, so beware bigponds may have a big croc in them, you can never be 100% sure what crocs are up to. Still we have it better than the Yanks, crocs are in the water BEARS can turn up any were and can CLIME trees I’ll stick with the crocs

Stinking hot build up weather here, thunder storms in the afternoons if we are lucky.
We are all waiting for the Monsoon to stat around the end of the year, big wet forcast this year better make sure my hammock floats

Do you need to go so high to avoid crocs?

The biggest crocs around here are about 5m 16/17 foot for the non metric viewers. I won't like to test how high a big one can reach for his dinner
