    Hi from Cape Cod

Awesome Forum! I've been lurking around and decided to join when I saw the organized hangs. I do have a question about food protection. Do you use a Bear Bag or Canister?
And I have a dog question. How do you hang with your dog?
I was told there'd be no math on this exam. ~T.D.

    Welcome to the forum!

Depends on where I am if I hang or bring my canister. I do some homework on the area if its new and then decide. When I canoe, I always bring canisters since weight is less of an issue. I've yet to have a single problem with a bear, but I usually have much more trouble with little critters.

I don't have advice for hanging with a dog, but I do hang with one of my rabbits sometimes!

Welcome from Ohio. Can't help you with bears, as for my dogs, they're all very small so they hang with us, when they come along. I'm also a firm believer in leash laws, they are there for your dog and my dog's protection.

I hang my food in a bag up in a tree away from where I sleep. There are different ways to hang a bear bag. A google search will turn up lots but the bottom line is to have your food as inaccessible as possible and a fair distance from where you sleep so if some animal were to get at your food you are at a safe distance. Ideally you should also not cook near your sleeping area either. I have not used bear canisters so I cannot comment on them.

With regards to your dog, it depends on the dog. Some are small enough to sleep in the hammock with their owners. Other dogs sleep on a pad underneath the tarp with their owners above them.

Welcome, I was just down your way on the last long weekend stayed at Nickerson. I used to hang my food and I don't cook dinner where I'm gonna camp but its a pain in the butt so I recently purchased ursack which I tie away from camp. I also have a canister for areas that regulations require one. As for hammocking w the dog I have a young border collie and I've been putting her under my rig on a sit pad. We have been out when it's chilly so she carries her coat and a light fleece blanket w her but mostly this past year its been a base camping situation so when my car has been there especially when its been real cold for her high thirties to low forties I've thrown a small dome tent up and haven't dealt as she can be quite the borderline border collie at times. My dog piece is a work in progress b/c she is young.

I'm in Falmouth. I love it although it can get very expensive.
