I've made thousands and thousands of cuts with the same Spyderco Persistance folding knife. It only requires an occasional touch up with ceramic rods and is always sharp enough to shave hairs.

I appreciate the info. I have seen those ceramic knives at Harbor Freight, but with so much "cheap" stuff there, I passed, thinking they'd be crappy.

So far, I've used a single-edge razor blade on a PTFE cutting board, but now I think I'll pick up one of those ceramic knives the next time I'm at Harbor Freight.

    Thanks!

Does this nail hardener adhere well and strongly enough so you can finish splicing operations without taping, assuming your technique is to push-and-milk rather than pulling?

Red sent me a ceramic knife almost 2 years ago. Perhaps he can tell where he got it but its cut alot of amsteel. Yeah its showing its age but it still cuts. I do use a wooden cutting board, perhaps a different material would improve its cutting performance.

    Nail Hardener

My technique is to pull. I use the hardener after I've done the splicing as a way to finish off the ends.

I always use the knife in my pocket, which is anything from a buck 110 to a spyderco endura. The trick for me is to use wood or paper as a back stop.
