    Pee Bottle

Not for nothin' and call me ignorant(cause i am new to hammocking) but using a pee bottle seems really risky man. I mean if you get that stray spray going you can potentially be sleeping in your own pee. Am I missing something? What do you guys do, kneel in the hammock? Sure as heck don't think i can pee lying on my back.... Anyhow, someone please enlighten me....

I can pee laying on my back, but it is much easier on one side. I use a wide mouth collapsible canteen that I can put the entire unit into. Reduces chances of error.

It took a while before I was comfortable doing this in my hammock, but years of practice in my sleeping bag while on the ground gave me confidence. Make sure the main portion of the bottle is lower than the mouth, giving gravity an assist.

If you go with something hard sided, make sure it is completely different from your water bottle. Some use a round bottle for one, a square or rectangle one for the other. Others use a special bottle shape, like powerade or gatorade, for the pee bottle. Happy going!

    *does the cartoon head shake*

You referring to a specific thread? This has comedy written all over it. I get my *** up and go pee at the edge of the campsite when i have to go.

I use a little John....Cabelas sells them for around $13. Recently camped just days after treatment for kidney stones so I was peeing all night. Just opened the sleeping bag a little "carefully fit" the little John in place, filled it up then dumped it over the side. Kept a cotton bandana handy just in case....you know for dribbles.

Remember two things....urine is sterile and this is camping we are talking about....the only time we get to do what we want without approval (or disapproval as the case may be) from the warden.

    Pee away my good man.....

Very worthwhile skill to develop if you camp when it's cold. 30's and lower, I am not getting up in the middle of the night; the cold wakes me up instantly, like coffee. This is also one of the many pluses to hammocking...it is much easier to get relief without getting up in a hammock than in a tent.

Hehehe. SilvrSurfr was telling me about Dylan using a Gatorade bottle for this. I might consider this for the winter.

I have tried a number of methods to avoid getting out in the cold weather . . .

. . . but revert back to "It makes nothing but good sense to get to the edge of camp to facilitate relief"

Wearing a vest helps to thwart the cold.

some one on here (not going to name names....) was going to try out what basically looked like umbrella bags you see in the front of stores...i thought he could get away with a sandwich bag, but i didnt verify.

and to my knowledge, he didnt use em..
