    ikea down comforter for UQ?

ikea seems to have cheap down comforters that are basic, used to put inside a duvais. wouldn't these make a good underquilt? all you would have to do is cover/cord it. all the down and baffling is done. would anyone else do this? am i missing something?

If weight is not an issue, I would tend to agree. I defer to the experienced hangers on this one however.

Just took a look and they are cheap for a reason...almost completely filled with duck feathers and not down.

For me it becomes more an issue of cost than of weight. I currently use an REI 20 degree sleeping bag with the zippers cut off and shock cord sewn onto each end to snug it up. Not the best set-up around but it does work. And since I bought it at one of their garage sales I didn't pay much either. That's a win for me. Why not try it, yoiu may find it works fine.

i prefer synthetic but its too bulky and heavy. i rather be smart with the bucks and hoof more weight, but thought this might be a win/win for me. the higher the warmth rating, the higher the down content. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00133514/

    just guessin

I was wondering the same, at first. However, I think the comforter is a cotton fabric. I think cotton isn't good for camping because it takes on water too easily. Ripstop nylon, (like a sleeping bag fabric) would be better.
