I heard of a scout troop in new england where all they use are hammocks. Guess they wanted to make for certain that where they went they always had a place to call camp, rain, shine, hillside or whatever.

    Your back will thank you.
When we crossed over I was using a small 2 man tent. All the other adults had these huge tents and I went with that for a while and a double height blow up bed to make that getting up and down thing easier.
I started hammocking after Summer Camp 2010, and have not gone back to the tent (unless the troop is camping in a location without trees.)
That includes 19 degrees one night. No problems, nice and warm and it sets a good example for the boys that you don't need to bring everything you own out to the field with you.

All right! Another scouter! Welcome to the ranks.

I started off with a Hennessy. It was easy and a good transition from a tent. However, be warned that it doesn't often stop there

Lots to to learn, but you're in good company.

Welcome from South Carolina. Scouts got me started with hammocks. Last summer about half the Venture Scouts on a week long canoe trip were a lot more comfortable in their hammocks than I was on the ground in my tent. They kindly let the old lady try a few naps and she was hooked.
