Ok, since I can't spend a lot of money, I am trying to figure out how to get a 20 deg UQ to be as versatile as possible. I prefer going out in the fall through spring seasons, but we live in N. GA so the worst temps I have to worry about are 0 degrees F. I am also an average sleeper. I like the idea of the hammock sock and I've heard that addition could take me down to 10 deg with a 20 deg UQ. The question I've got is how much further will a GG Thinlight 3/8" pad get me?
The other question I've got is about turning a old mummy bag into a pea pod on top of all of that. What temperature rated bag might I need for Deep Winter backpacking up North (approx. -15 deg) and would cutting of the hood and adding in a cinch channel lower my weight without killing any warming properties?
P.S. I'm still really new to the whole hammock thing, so if I'm just being a complete idiot with any of this here, please forgive me and by all means correct my info.
