    Down Supply

I know that it would be tough to know the quality of the down you were getting, but could you buy a bunch of down coats and stuff from a thrift store and use that down to make a TQ or UQ? I know at my local Value Village there are always down vests, coats and the odd duvet now and again.

I believe that has been done a few times. Just make sure that you don't have feathers unless you like having them stab you. Go forth and thrift.

Doing that is certainly a viable option, however in most down clothing and blankets there is going to be a larger proportion of feathers to down. So if you have more time on your hands than money, you could certainly pick the feathers out and yield more down. However, if it takes you 15 $5 vests, coats, blankets to yield 1 pound of down that may be 500 fill power at best, is it worth the effort when you could buy 1 pound of 750 FP duck down from Feather Industries in Toronto for the same price?

    Cheers

For guys in the US, expect at least $250 in paperwork and shipping fees to get bulk down down here from Canada

Don't forget that you might have to wash the down before using it.
