Wow, wasn't expecting this many replies. Thanks for the good wishes everyone! I see some people want some more info on the story. I wasn't sure if my original post would be too long! I'll write up a longer version of what happened tomorrow for you guys.
I was not properly relaxing until I found hammocks.

The question of a true hammocker.

    (I was wondering that too).

I don't want to make this too long so here are some details:

I'm still not sure how the fall happened. I haven't gone back to the spot I was hanging (yet) to try to figure it out. I suspect that I wasn't as diligent in checking my setup as I should have been.

For the height, I never measure exactly when I climbed up to my spots, but I wrote down the general info each night in my journal. That night I have it listed as 25-30 metres.

I was actually quite lucky because throughout my time hanging I would tell one of my friends where I was. He would come out to check on me and bring me anything if I needed it. He was supposed to come to see me the next day, so that's when he found me.

Since I was high hanging, I only brought up my essentials with me. I "hid" the rest of my stuff in bushes and such around. Of course, soon after I woke up and got over the initial shocks of what happened, I ask my buddy "did you get my hammock?!?" Unfortunately, by the time he went back to the spot, someone had taken it (along with my other things there). Just means I get to look into getting another one.
I was not properly relaxing until I found hammocks.

Dont believe it, you feel nearly 80 feet, survived with no broken bones(assuming). Went for two months without food, yea right.

"I like to backpack through some wooded areas just outside the city which has been known to harbor criminals and delinquents. "

Why would you do that? Are you looking for trouble?

"I planned on staying there for 6 months as there are deer and small mammals to roast over an open fire."

WTF, why would you want to kill, skin and eat animals for six months? Are you ok, mentally?
I could see if you had no choice, but for the sheer enjoyment?

If you had fallen from a tree 80ft high and been in a coma in a park that people frequent, you would have been found before two months.

"...surrounding tree cover provided protection from the elements." Trees dont protect you from freezing rain and precip, it gets through the gaps.

Your story doesn't add up at all, are the rest of you this gullible?
