    Winter Camping

Well as most of you know or experienced we had some snow up here in the North East. I live in Mass. and specifically this weekend I was hanging my Hammock in Russell at Moses Scout camp. I was up there doing an OWLS course. Outdoor Webelos Leadership Skills for those not in scouting. Well because we were going to get hit with a fair amount of snow the leaders opted to have everyone sleep inside. Well being the foolish crazy one I asked to still take the option to sleep outside. Well when they found out I was in a hammock they were a little unsure whether or not to let me. So reassuring them and showing them my rig I was able to sleep outside. Thank goodness I was not sure I would have slept inside with the heat and noise. Well wouldn't you know it we got hit hard with 16" of wet snow. Through out all the night there were sounds of breaking branches and falling trees and what not. NON near us though. I made sure to take a long hard look as to what was above me. I had a blast. take a look at the pix and you will see.

yeeeehaaaaa! that must have been fun to be out there during that storm. When I lived in Boston there's nothing like being outside at night during a blizzard. Thx for sharing the pics

Thanks guys. I didn't have any trees or branches come down around me. I did have one problem that I overlooked. I woke up in the morning and had the hammock and tarp up for another 6 hours. At this time I didnt think to keep an eye on the tarp because it had stopped snowing. When I went out to pack everything up all the snow on the trees came off and landed on the tarp and put so much stress on it that it broke my ridge line.
So lesson learned. Even after fresh falling snow has stop still keep an eye on the tarp and keep it clean. I am glad that it was only the ridge line and not the tarp.

The super fly held up great. Last three times I have had it out it has been in 80* weather, 30mph winds and 16" of snow. That is all in a month. What a test period. It has performed flawlessly. Thanks Warbonnet Guy
