    Hello tarp?

So I'm in the market for a tarp...

I won't lie. I don't know a whole lot about it, cause as you all know I'm pretty new to this.

Q, You made your own hammock, why don't you make your own tarp? There are tons of ways to do this, but basically you just need to sew an edge on some waterproof fabric, preferably lightweight silnylon or DWR, and sew some grosgrain loops on the edges, along with some reinforcement where the loops attach. Very simplistic explanation, but there are a lot of ways to do this.

Considering your ability with a sewing machine and your budget, you might consider making your own. There are several designs that you can link to here in the tarps forum.

There are many threads here talking about where to find good fabric deals. As long as all you need is enough for one tarp, Ed Speers has a very good deal on Sil-Nylon Here. He ships really fast also.

QChan, try textile outfitters from Calgary:

    Textile Outfitters

They'll have waterproof fabrics for sure.

Ed Speer sells silnylon at very reasonable prices. I think probably the best deal you will find. Also see OWF for a good deal on seconds.

I looked at their site. Is the silnylon $20/meter Canadian? Like $19.95 U.S.? If so try...

I agree those are much better suggestions for silnylon, Jeffjen. I suggested textile outfitters because they also carry a fantastic assortment of notions and patterns. They also have other waterproof fabrics that would be heavier, of course. I always enjoy having a look at what textile outfitters has to offer even if I end up finding a cheaper source.

    Thanks for sharing the links.
