and I must say, what magnificent country! Do I correctly recall that parts of "The Last of the Mohicans" was filmed in Linville Gorge? One of these days I must make a pilgrimage.........

ABSOLUTELY Jim ... the fort was built at the boat landing south of Shortoff Mountain, the first attach when the sisters were coming was on the trails near Linville Falls, the last scene in the movie was filmed on the Chimney Ridge (where by the way the wife and I had a little ... ahem ... picnic years before Ms. Stowe stood there), and the chase scene in the canoes was filmed above the falls. Other scenes were filmed all over western NC
